Conversation with Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier

28 Jul

This afternoon I had an appointment with Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier.  My initial impressions were positive with Mr Garnier saying he would write to the Department for Transport requesting clarification of the legislation that covers disabled access on aircraft.

It would appear from research that the Equality Act 2010 does not apply to Aircraft.  This is confirmed by a statement on the department for transport (DfT) website here

This at first glance would seem bizarre.  It would appear however that the reason for this is aircraft are actually sovereign territory and therefore the Equality Act 2010 does not apply because it is only applicable within UK territory.  This is however not a suitable situation and awareness is key to overcoming this deeply unsatisfactory situation.

I await the response from Mr Garnier in the coming weeks and from there I can then decide on my next course of action.
